Sports Clubs

At Whiston Willis we do our best to promote living a healthy lifestyle to all children. We therefore offer a wide range of sports clubs to all years. Clubs are held either before school, during lunchtime or after school.

The following clubs are on offer before and after school:

Monday Dodgeball Club 0800-0830

Open to all KS2 children, this club will start at 0800am and finish at 0830am. Children must arrive in sports kit, and bring their full school uniform with them.

Dodgeball is a contact sport - the purpose of the sport is to hit the opponent with the ball (deliberate head shots are not allowed).

Monday Hockey 1510-1615

Open to all KS2 children, this club will start at 3.10pm and finish at 4.15pm. Children will change into sports kit prior to the club.

Hockey is a semi-contact sport - the purpose of the sport is to score a goal using a purpose built stick. The stick cannot be used dangerously and the ball must be shot a controlled manner.

Monday Racket Sports 1510-1615

Open to all KS2 children, this club will start at 3.10pm and finish at 4.15pm. Children will change into sports kit prior to the club.

Racket Sports invovles a variety of sports such as tennis, cricket, table tennis and badminton. The club is designed to increase mixed sport as it is a non-contact sport.

Tuesday Gymnastics Club

Open to SELECTED KS2 children, this club will start at 3.10pm and finish at 4.15pm. Children will change into sports kit prior to the club.

Gymnastics is a led by Total Gymnastics, it is offered to Years 2-4 children selected through the participation of Gymnastic sessions during school.

Tuesday Year 5/6 Boys Football 1510-1615

Open to all Year 5/6 children, this club will start at 3.10pm and finish at 4.15pm. Children will change into sports kit prior to the club. This club is likely to be outside due to the fact all sports halls are in use. Please ensure your child brings warm, waterproof clothing; including appropriate footwear and shin pads (pumps are not suitable).

Football is a semi-contact sport; the aim is score a goal using your feet only. Goalkeepers may use their hands. Teamwork is encouraged. Children without the appropriate clothing/ protective equipment will not be allowed to play.

Family Co-Jo Club 1510-1615

Open to all families, this club will start at 3.10pm and finish at 4.15pm. Children will change into sports kit prior to the club.

Co-Jo is a club open to ALL children including parents, brothers and sisters. The club will involve physical activity, including teamwork, leadership and communication activities. ONLY AVAILABLE TILL FEB HALF TERM!

Wednesday KS1 Multi-Skills Club 1510-1615

Curren;ty open to gorilla class only, this club will start at 3.00pm and finish at 4.15pm. Children will change into sports kit prior to the club.

Multi-Skills club involves a number of sports suitable for a variety of ages. The main focus is the fundamental skills such as balance, movement, throwing and catching. These skills are taught through a variety of sports such as dodgeball, football, rounders, athletics etc.

Thursday Family Fitness 0800-0830

Open to all families, this club will start at 08.00am and finish at 08.30am. Children must arrive in sports kit, and bring their full school uniform with them.

Family Fitness includes a number of stations suitable for all ages. It is physically demanding however, suitable children of all ages. It is encouraged that children attend with parents, brothers and sisters however; children will not be turned away at any point for no family members being present.

Thursday Handball 1510-1615

Open to all KS2 children, this club will start at 3.10pm and finish at 4.15pm. Children will change into sports kit prior to the club.

A new sport for most - the purpose of the sport is to score a goal using a purpose designed ball. A mixture of hockey, basketball and hockey, the sport involves a lot of catching and throwing.

Thursday Basketball 1510-1615

Open to all KS2 children, this club will start at 3.10pm and finish at 4.15pm. Children will change into sports kit prior to the club.

Basketball is an alternative option to handball, all children must score hoops, children can dribble with the ball however travelling with the ball is prohibited.

Friday Kurling 0745-0830 (Toast included)

Open to all children, this club will start at 07.45am and finish at 08.30am. The only sport club that includes breakfast. Children can arrive in sports kit, and bring their full school uniform with them. However, they are also welcome to attend in school uniform if they wish.

New Age Kurling is a new sport on offer to all children at Whiston Willis, it is similar to Ice Curling, and however the stones have wheels. The aim is to get closest to the target. The game is a team sport therefore involves communication and teamwork.

Friday Cross-Country 1510-1545

Open to all KS2 children, this club will start at 3.10pm and finish at 3.45pm. Children will change into sports kit prior to the club.

Cross-country is probably the sport that has the biggest impact on fitness, all children involved are welcome to attend cross-country competition on a regular basis. The sport involves running for a long period of time 10-20 minutes (preferably without stopping).

At Whiston Willis, we continue to encourage children to participate in a variety of sports. The sports clubs on offer are due to change dependant on the uptake. Please encourage your child to attend a variety of clubs. Remember they all count towards Children's University credits.
