Mrs Pender

Welcome to Lion Class

Staff members Mrs Pender and Mrs Vasey
P.E. days Please ensure your child has their P.E. kit in school at all times for any possible P.E. sessions that may arise. Children take part in lunchtime P.E sessions.
Homework and Spellings

Children are currently attending booster classes in preparation for their upcoming SATs assessments. Homework will be issued from these booster sessions when the staff member feels this is necessary.

We encourage children to maintain their enthusiasm at home by engaging with reading and Mathletics.

A list of year six spelling rules have been provided to children. Please encourage your child to be engaging with this and practising all spellings regularly.

Start time

Children can now come into class at 8:40am.

Finish time

3:10pm
Snack

In our school we are advocates of healthy eating. We therefore encourage the children to bring healthy snacks to school. Your child is welcome to bring a snack for their break time at 10:45am. As well as this, we have a tuck shop filled with healthy options. These vary in price from 30p to 60p.

This page will keep you updated with all of the exciting things going on in Lion Class! It will also give hints and tips to support the children throughout the year.

Important information

Please ensure P.E kits are available in school.

Preparation for SATs

In preparation for SATs here is a list of things you could be working on at home with your child:

Reading - to develop their reading skills and broaden their level of vocabularyand punctuation

Spellings - Year 3 and 4  & 5 and 6 word lists have been sent home , please revise these as best you can with your child as well as completing the spelling pattern spelling sheets the children will now bring home

Times Tables and Basic Skills - The four operations (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division) are the foundation to a lot of higher level maths skills and knowing these inside out can really support your child in many aspects of maths. Ask your child to show you what methods we have learnt in school for these four operations and give them some numbers to prove this to you!

Past SATs Papers - As well as the pack that we sent home before half term there are also links on one of our blogs to sites which will allow you to download past papers and mark schemes (answers) This is a useful tool for your child to practise test style questioning and become more familiar with the layout and structure of the paper. It also helps you understand what the children are going to be sitting in May. If your child has completed a paper and you would like me to mark it, I would be happy to do this!

The most important thing you can do for your child is not to put them under too much pressure, praise them and reassure them as long as they are doing their best we can't ask for much more than that! The children are all working extremely hard and as their teacher I am already thrilled with their progress and with continued hard work I am confident they will all reach their potential come May!

Keep going children, not long to go!

For more information or questions/queries we will be holding a short SATs meeting on Thursday 16th March at 3.15pm in Junior Hall.
