Reading at home

Date: 27th Jan 2017 @ 10:58am

Just a quick note about home Reading Books.

We have a display in the main entrance which highlights with little racing cars how many books your child has read and understood.

For the reception children this involves the child reading the book at home and at school and discussing the book's content to demonstrate understanding.

In Years 1 & 2 the children will take a quiz on the iPad to assess their understanding of what they have read.

The school staff will change their home reading book when they assess the pupil as being ready as it doesn't help the child to move too quickly through the scheme books without being secure on understanding what they have read. If you feel your child has read and understood the scheme books, please encourage them to read their library book or any books/magazines from home as this will widen their enjoyment reading. Remember to record what they have read in their reading record as this helps us to assess their understanding and enjoyment of different genre.

If you would like some ideas on making reading fun, please speak to your class teacher or myself, Mrs Baxendale.

Thank you for your continued support.
