End of year letter

July 2017

Dear Parents,

I can’t actually believe that another year has come to an end and we have another group of amazing children leaving us to continue their learning at high school in September.

Our Y6 children have been brilliant examples this year in so many ways and we will really miss their positive influence around school. They have represented the school so well in their time here, fulfilled responsibilities with pride and determination and academically grown so much to achieve some wonderful SATs results at the end of Y6 at Whiston Willis. I wish them good luck for their future.

In addition to our children leaving, we have a number of staff moving on. Mrs Baxendale has secured a new job as Assistant Head teacher at a school in Wigan, Mrs Corr is leaving to work outside of education, Mrs Heathcote is retiring and Miss Vedmore is leaving as Miss Harrision is returning from her maternity leave. We also will be saying goodbye to Miss Louise who has worked directly with an individual child in our Y6 for a number of years. All these members of staff have played an important role at school, whether that is for 1 year or 25+ years, and I offer our thanks to them on behalf of the whole school community for their efforts in helping the children succeed and grow as individuals whilst at Whiston Willis.

I would like to also offer our welcome to Mr Maloney who will be starting teaching at Whiston Willis in September. We are really pleased that we have been able to appoint Mr Maloney and he is another positive addition to our teaching staff.

In recent weeks, we have achieved so much that have made me feel so proud of our children and the community. Events like the Children’s University Graduation, Sports Day, our Race for life event and the UK Military School passing out ceremony really show how special our children are and the talents, moral values and skills they have beyond ‘normal’ classroom routines.

All of the children who completed the Race for Life at school deserve great praise. The commitment from them and the support they have been shown by their families is amazing. We have raised a staggering £3510 from the event which is such an fantastic achievement for a relatively small school like ours. Thank you.

Academically, the children have been brilliant this year. We have achieved our best ever End of reception results (2nd year running), Y2 children have performed brilliantly in their KS1 SATS (making wonderful progress) and our Y6 children have achieved reading results that are well above the national average! In all other year groups the children have achieved well and when I have looked back at books from last year to this the progress they have made is exceptional. The attitude the children show to learning has developed over time and we are seeing some positive results.

I would like to take this opportunity on a personal level to thank you all for your continued support. I hope you can see that we are working extremely hard to make ongoing improvements to our school. It is a journey that we are all on together-staff, governors, families and most importantly the children- and I firmly believe that we are moving in the right direction.

Next year will be an exciting time as we continue to progress and strive to ensure the children continue to enjoy school and the opportunities we can provide.

I look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday September 4th; fully rested with perfect school uniform on show and more summer holiday memories to share.

Enjoy the holiday!

Ian Cooper
